Carlow RTC Staff - Michael Glynn
I am married to Grania and we have five children, Fiona, Aoife,
Crona, Diarmuid and Brian.
Both parents -Grania's and mine- were primary teachers, giving us a
particular interest in education and teaching as a career.
B.E. (Civil Engineering) from U.C.D.,1971.
Diploma in Computers for Engineers from T.C.D., 1979.
M.Eng.Sc. from U.C.D., 1990; Thesis topic: The effects of weathering
on the shear strength parameters of Glenmore slate/shale.
Chartered membership of the Institution of Engineers of Ireland ,
Fellow of the Institution of Engineers of Ireland, 1995.
Worked with consulting engineers, C.H.Clifton & Partners and
J.B.Barry & Partners, as Resident Engineer on the construction of water schemes from 1971 to 1974.
Worked as Temporary Assistant County Engineer, then Assistant County
Engineer and finally Executive Engineer with Dublin County Council between 1974 and 1980, with two years leave of absence from 197
6 to 1978, working with Concern in Bangladesh.
Lecturing at Carlow RTC since 1980, with one year's leave of absence,
1985/1986, to work once again with Concern in Bangladesh.
I have lectured in both the Building and Civil Engineering areas and
in the subject areas Construction Technology, Engineering Materials, Theory Of Structures and Soil Mechanics. My current work is l
argely in Geotechnical and Highway Engineering.
Other Engineering Interests
Co-Director of MTS (Materials Testing Services ) Ltd along with
Michael Quinn. This company was set up in 1994 to test roads materials and is currently engaged in quality control at design and constr
uction stages for Local Authorities, materials production companies,
consultants and contractors in roads and Civil Engineering generally.
I enjoy watercolour painting, birdwatching, photography and listening
to and playing music - it is never too late to learn, I am told! I also follow with great interest Tipperary hurling and Palatine
