The College provides a broad range of full-time practically-oriented courses at National Certificate, Diploma and Degree levels, as well as part-time and adult education courses, along with education and training courses specifically tailored to the needs of local industries and businesses. Research and Consultancy work for these businesses is conducted by many staff.

There are about 2500 full-time students in the college, and expansion is planned at the rate of about 10% per year over the next several years.

There is a separate page about the concept and background of the Institutes of Technology in general, with pointers to the web pages of all the colleges.

Approaches to the college are shown on the map of Carlow Town, and there is a page of bus and train timetables.
